A seventh-generation circus performer, Pietro Canestrelli was born in a caravan wagon in Italy in 1925. The Canestrelli family had a circus in Europe for 50 years. Pietro came to the Unted States and toured with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey in the mid-1950s, performing with his brother and sister. He met his wife, Joyce (a trapeze artist and dancer), while performing. They went on to raise six children – all of whom, at one time or another, performed with the family act. The Canestrellis was a headlining act in SeaWorld’s “City Streets” show.
